The Genesis Reading Academy exists to combat what Governor Tina Kotek calls Oregon’s “literacy crisis.” The Genesis Reading Academy strives to collaborate with students, families, other educators, and community resources who share our belief that access to a full, rich education is a human right. A student’s ability to read deeply, joyfully, confidently, and critically allows that student to experience a meaningful education. Too many children in our state and in our nation who are classified as "economically disadvantaged" struggle to command the necessary skills essential to learning how to read well. As a result, too many children in our schools find access to the education they have a right to experience blocked. The Genesis Reading Academy believes in the possibilities of reimagining primary education in ways that will transition students from attending school as victims of a literacy crisis into agents of the creation of a literacy renaissance.
